Adult supervision and appropriate use
Independent exploration still needs appropriate adult supervision. A parent, guardian, or the classroom’s authorized caregiver remains responsible for supervising children, choosing appropriate access, and following the instructions for each activity. We do not provide drop-off childcare or take over the setting’s supervision obligations.
We consider the intended age range, abilities, mouthing behavior, and the youngest child who can reach an activity. Manufacturer age restrictions and safety warnings must be followed. Supervision is not a reason to provide an otherwise prohibited or unsuitable product to a younger child.
Keep small parts away from children under three and any child who may mouth or swallow them. In a mixed-age room, older children’s activities must be stored and used where younger children cannot access them. If safe separation is not practical, we select a different activity.
Selection, inspections and recalls
We use identifiable materials with appropriate instructions and safety information. Before placing an item, we check its condition, completeness, suitability and relevant recall information. We do not knowingly circulate a recalled, broken or unsafe item.
We recheck items on return and review recall notices. Damaged items are removed from use until any manufacturer-approved remedy is completed; items that cannot be made suitable are retired. We do not make unverified repairs or modifications that undermine the intended safety of a product.
If a recall or safety problem affects a material already with you, we contact you with stop-use and return instructions. You should also stop use and contact us whenever you notice a hazard.
Furniture and the room
Furniture must be stable, appropriate for its use and installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, including anchoring when required. We do not make an unstable shelf safe merely by placing lighter items on it. Any required professional installation or property approval must be completed before children use that part of the space.
Keep exits, heaters, outlets, cords and windows clear and address climbing, tip-over and entrapment hazards. A learning-space setup is not a whole-property inspection, a building-code certification, or a replacement for the setting’s own safety checks. Let us know before moving furniture or changing access to materials.
Between-family cleaning and preparation
- Returned materials are separated from prepared materials, counted and inspected before reuse.
- We clean visible dirt using methods appropriate for the material and its manufacturer’s instructions. Cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting are different processes.
- Where appropriate and compatible with the item, we sanitize mouthed items and disinfect after relevant illness or contamination. Any chemical product must be suitable for the item and used exactly as labeled, including contact time and any required rinsing.
- Washable fabrics are laundered and fully dried according to their care instructions. Wood and other porous materials are not soaked or treated with a method that damages them.
- An item that cannot be safely cleaned or prepared for its intended reuse is withdrawn rather than passed to another family. Prepared materials are stored dry and apart from returned items.
Care while materials are with you
Follow the care instructions supplied for each material. Clean visibly dirty items and set aside mouthed or contaminated items before another child uses them. In a preschool, the operator remains responsible for its required between-child hygiene routines in addition to our between-setting preparation.
Ask us before using a new cleaning method. Do not mix cleaning chemicals or leave them accessible to children. Cleaning does not make a broken or inappropriate material safe, and our preparation process cannot promise a sterile or infection-free environment.
Sensitivities, consumables and illness
Tell us about material restrictions, mouthing concerns, or sensitivities that affect selection. You do not need to send medical records through the website. No rented collection can be guaranteed allergen-free. Let us know before using an unfamiliar substance or an activity that could expose a child to an allergen.
Food, seeds, small natural objects, scented products, paints and other consumables are used only when specifically agreed, age-appropriate and consistent with their instructions. Consumables are identified separately and are not redistributed after use.
If illness, body-fluid contamination, mold or a pest problem affects materials, stop sharing them, set them aside safely, and tell us before collection so appropriate precautions can be arranged.
Concerns and emergencies
For an immediate danger or injury, first seek appropriate emergency assistance. Our email and business number are not emergency channels. Once the immediate situation is addressed, notify us of a material-related incident and preserve the affected item and relevant information without continuing to use it.
We document concerns, investigate, arrange an appropriate remedy or withdrawal, and make required reports when applicable. Parents and schools remain free to report a product to the manufacturer, the CPSC, or another authority. Reporting a concern does not require signing a liability release.
We follow applicable child-safeguarding and reporting duties. Where the law requires a report of suspected child abuse or neglect, we make that report to the appropriate authority. A client’s request for confidentiality or an internal complaint process cannot prevent a legally required report. We do not undertake an investigative interview of a child to determine whether a report is required.
